  • Watch the highly acclaimed video "Building Green" about new sustainable building practices locally.

  • Watch the "Helmets to Hardhats" Video, an Informational piece for Pacific Mountain Region veterans about how to transition from the military into high paying, rewarding careers in the construction industry. Earn while you learn, paid apprenticeship programs are described.

  • June 7 was the day of the 2nd Annual 'Try-a-Trade' event at Satsop, giving local high school students hands-on lessons with heavy equipment and peek at other construction trade opportunities. Watch the video. . . .

As the Construction Industry Coordinator, I am excited about the WIRED initiatives and collaborations that will continue to impact our region long past the initial grant.

With experience as a High School CTE instructor, I know the importance of informing students about the high wage, high demand jobs available in construction. As a former construction tradesman, I know the satisfaction of seeing a job well done, but also understand the growing needs of labor to advance employees and fill critical positions as the baby boom generation retires.

There’s much work to do establishing the construction plan which connects with existing and emerging CTE, apprenticeship, Veteran, and incumbent worker outreach. The Regional Education and Training Center (RETC) will be a home base for many operations. The Construction Industry Panel, composed of dedicated volunteers from all five counties, will provide the direction and connections needed to accomplish this mission. Together, we will meet the 21st Century goals for education, economic development and environmental stewardship for the Pacific Mountain Region.

WIRED grant monies, as well as the sponsorship and support from the WA State Labor Council and WA State Building and Construction Trades Council are getting this project off the ground. I look forward to working with these excellent groups, as well as the apprenticeship councils, school districts and construction industry.
