New 5 County Labor market Study Just Out!

Initiatives

WIRED is creating a regional identity that integrates and aligns economic development, education, and workforce assets in the five counties.

Projects and Activities undertaken are called Initiatives. These Initiatives:

  • Are focused within the targeted industries
  • Impact our regional economy
  • Engage partners from industry, economic development, education, and workforce
  • Produce outcomes that are replicable
  • Transform the way we think about and do business
  • Demonstrate sustainability beyond the life of the WIRED grant

These are just a few examples of WIRED Initiatives impacting our region….

  • This summer, Aberdeen School teachers visited several manufacturing operations to see the jobs of tomorrow, available today. One stop was the Sierra Pacific Lumber Mill, where they learned that wood production today is extremely high-tech, utilizing every bit of wood through advanced computing.
  • Lewis and Mason county residents overcame personal barriers to employment by attending the class, “Unlocking Your Potential.” One student tearfully told her instructor, “This class changed my life.”
  • Thirty-one high school students learned to think outside the box, engaging in creative team problem-solving in a robotics class taught by college instructors. An instructor described how students had to be forced to take breaks because they were so excited about their projects!
