Better jobs for workers, qualified applicants for employers; WIRED funds are making it happen. Fifty-one percent of employers who attempted to hire workers in 2005 had difficulty finding qualified applicants. To meet this demand, The Pacific Mountain Workforce Consortium and The Pacific Mountain Workforce Development Council are using WIRED funds to help prospective applicants get Ready to Work.
Programs are industry driven, with training focused to fill the gap between worker skills and business needs. Blending basic job skills with occupational requirements, WIRED is preparing the worker to meet an employer’s needs. By expanding the availability of career pathways, students have the opportunity to enter postsecondary education and specialized job training programs leading to high-skill, high-wage careers.
Below are some of the Ready to Work materials available to workers, businesses, and educators. Select from the menu to the left to view Ready to Work programs.
Workplace Competency materials are available at no cost to educators, students, employers, and WorkSource centers. These materials can also be customized, and are available in formats for classroom, office, or student portfolios.
Building Blocks and Manufacturing Opportunity posters, in addition to the student flip chart format, list the competencies needed at each stage of employment development. Employer Expectations lists the soft skills essential to finding and keeping a job. It was created from a survey of Pacific Mountain Region employers, and is a popular handout that is continually requested by WorkSource partners, businesses, employers, and parents.
